There's nothing more special than photographing your own family's wedding, and then add to that a funky destination like Portland, Oregon, where it all happened!
Adrian (Randal's brother) and Camilla, opted for a destination wedding in Portland for no other reason than they love the city. And what more do you need? Portland is a city that has been said to combine pieces of Yaletown, Gastown and Downtown Eastside. It offers great restaurants, markets and stores (we particularly loved going to Powell's bookstore which encompasses an entire city block!), and has a great small city feel with tons of style.
The beautiful Hotel Deluxe was the setting for the preparations, and with its old-world, movie-star feel, it was the perfect ambience for the start of Camilla and Adrian's day.
Camilla and Adrian wanted lots of pieces of themselves in their wedding day, and there were. Lots. Adrian, for example has been a crazy Fluevogs fan for years and they formed the basis for what he wore on the wedding day. They even let us photograph in the store after we explained we were Vancouverites! Adrian, being the awesome graphic designer that he is, designed all the menu cards, place cards and seating chart - all of which looked amazing and stylish. Then there was the unique guest wooden signing board, shaped to the state of Oregon. The couple plan to have it laminated with all the notes from guests.
The wedding party was a happy, energetic bunch of friends and family, and laughing through the streets of Portland we went - stopping in front of many weird and wonderful doorways. Camilla and Adrian are super sweet together, and love to laugh and play with each other. The end of the creative session brought us to the reception location - the lovely Urban Studio - which had been decorated beautifully by good friend and wedding planner, Kiri McLeod, and her assistant, Jody. Kiri played double duty that day by overseeing plans, while Jody was the one making sure everything was in place!
Cocktails and canapés were served in the foyer of the Studio, followed by a lovely ceremony given by officiant, Steve Sharp. A fabulous dinner followed with local tastes of Portland and a distinctly fall menu. The highlight (at least for all dessert-lovers) were the Blue Star Donuts served at the end (although several people, including our kids, tasted them well before!).
After dinner, the party really started by the lively DJ Paradox, who kept everyone on the dance floor all night. It was lovely to have all members of the family on the dance floor at the same time - that's definitely a first!
Camilla and Adrian - we had such a fabulous time at your celebration and wish you many years of love, laughter and life. Thanks for taking us all to Portland!
